Project Overview

Frustrated by having to remember numerous hotkeys while video editing and unwilling to spend over €200 on a professional macropad, I decided to build my own. This project involved designing a custom 3x3 key matrix and integrating rotary encoders for volume and other controls. Using a Raspberry Pi Pico 2040 microcontroller, I learned a lot about keyboard matrix wiring, microcontroller programming, and hardware interfacing. The build process included extensive soldering and hardware assembly, which greatly improved my hands-on skills with electronics. Overall, this project enhanced my understanding of embedded systems, input device design, and practical problem solving in DIY electronics.
